Factors That Affect Height Growth
A person’s height is largely determined by genetics (thank you, Mom and Dad). But there are things that can affect growth, including nutrition, exercise and posture.키성형
Kids grow at their fastest rate from birth to age 1. They add about 10 inches or 25 cm in that first year, and then the rate of height growth slows down a bit until puberty. In the years leading up to puberty, most children grow about 2 inches each year. After puberty, most people’s height growth comes to a stop because the long bones in their bodies have grown as far as they can. The specialized cartilage in the ends of the long bones (called growth plates) changes to bone, or ossifies, and they stop growing. The growth plates close around age 16 in females and age 18 in males.
People’s heights vary between regions of the world, reflecting both past and current environmental conditions that impact health and access to food and resources. Generally, people in poorer countries tend to be shorter than those in wealthier ones. In addition, certain genetic conditions like Turner syndrome, achondroplasia and some forms of dwarfism can cause someone to be short.
Most doctors agree that, beyond a certain point, people’s height is mostly decided by their genes. That said, proper nutrition during childhood and adolescence can help maximize potential height. The nutrient-rich foods that are best for growth include dairy, meats, fish, nuts and fruits and vegetables. Protein and calcium are particularly important for bone growth. Vitamin D is needed for healthy bones, too. It’s also important for a person to get enough sleep, as sleeping too little can inhibit growth.
If a child’s growth isn’t on track, a doctor may prescribe human growth hormone to try to help the person grow to his or her potential height. But keep in mind that this can only help with stunting, not make someone taller than his or her genetics allow.
A person’s posture can have a huge impact on his or her overall height. Sitting up straight, or maintaining good posture, helps stretch the spine, which can lead to a taller person. But chronic slouching or sitting in an awkward position can shorten the spine and lead to a person who looks shorter than his or her actual height.
While there isn’t much that can be done to change a person’s genetics or the height they will reach as adults, it’s still important to have a good attitude about height and be proud of the height you are. Embracing your height and focusing on other areas of self-improvement can help you feel better about yourself and improve your quality of life.닥터케빈의원
